This final project was for a first year studio, as a class, we designed existing space for the city with eight models formed by carving and intersecting form design strategies that then generated the new in-between sites. This project was impactful by learning how to design for in-between, existing spaces and how that limits the final design along with the advantages and uniqueness of the final product. This project showed how influential it is to work around and with other creators, even though each project outcome was individually devised.
These sections are of the whole city and the whole group's projects. The design shown in this section is the left-most area. In the short section, the focus project is on the right side of the image.
These perspectives show the design intentions of the site. Since the site was in between existing structures, strategies of how to effectively use the assigned area were crucial all while performing a composition that was compelling. The ideas of compression then relief can be seen in the main entrance under the structure in the top left image being under the majority of the structure then elevated into the main section. The same idea can be seen in the compressing walkway seen in image one on the right side and in the third image along with the left view. Then the main area of expansion to generate relief is the main large open space seen in views two and three.
"CRAFT IS KEY"
Images below were generated through intersecting forms to create negative space in the center of the object. The ideas of intersecting forms, also with generating new designs through existing, in-between spaces were the common techniques used in the outcome of Implicity.
The above images are in the form of a puzzle and shows the progression from left to right, this model was made with PLA 3D printing. Below the forms were made with laser cutting then the pieces were joined on the edges
Below is one of the early sketches that were made using a guide system of two points and two linear elements for each cell drawing. This was one of the early attempts for thinking 0f forming negative space, which the whole semester project had an emphasis on.
